ViaSat files patent infringement lawsuit

Published:

The need for professional liability insurance has never been higher for tech companies, which are constantly involved in patent infringement lawsuits, with one of the latest suits being between ViaSat and Space Systems/Loral and Loral Space & Communications.

ViaSat recently alleged SS/L committed patent infringement related to wireless networking and other technology, including technology used in its 100+ Gbps ViaSat-1 satellite.

"We are very proud of the technology we invented that enabled ViaSat-1 to deliver more than 10 times the throughput of prior generation broadband satellites," said Rick Baldridge, president and COO of ViaSat. "We believe our complaint clearly establishes our position regarding ownership of the underlying intellectual property as well as SS/L's infringement of our patents and its breach of contract."

ViaSat's technology recently earned an accolade from the Society of Satellite Professionals International, which awarded the company with Industry Innovators Awards on Eutelsat Communications.

The company recently released Exede, its high-speed internet service, which offers customers speeds up to 12 megabytes per second downstream and up to 3 megabytes per second. upstream.
