Mobile technology provider MacroSolve recently filed a patent infringement lawsuit against the Hyatt Corporation, alleging Hyatt's mobile app, among other technologies, violates MacroSolve's U.S. Patent No. 7,822,816.
"This suit against Hyatt marks one of numerous enforcement actions we've taken against the largest companies in the U.S. which are utilizing mobile app platforms that infringe upon our patent," said Jim McGill, vice chairman of MacroSolve.
The MacroSolve dispute with Hyatt is the latest of many patent cases illustrating why tech companies are well-advised to invest in professional liability insurance policies that can cover costs involved in intellectual property cases.
McGill said his company has a history of protecting its intellectual property rights and receiving compensation from companies infringing upon its patents.
MacroSolve is also locked in a patent infringement lawsuit with Wal-Mart, which the tech company says is violating the same patent that the Hyatt Corporation is believed to have infringed upon.
McGill believes the increased use of mobile apps is causing more companies to perhaps unknowingly infringe upon his company's patent.
