According to The Associated Press, Facebook and the state of Washington are teaming up to fight back against a type of spam called "clickjacking," which refers to harmful links that find their way onto pages on the social networking site and other sites.
"The way we think about it, security is an arms race," said Ted Ullyot, general counsel for Facebook, who spoke with the AP alongside Washington Attorney General Rob McKenna. "It's important to stay ahead of spammers and scammers."
Officials believe Delaware-based Adscend Media is behind the links, which have caused two lawsuits filed in federal courts in California and Washington, the AP reported.
Tech companies threatened by clickjacking and other forms of cybercrime would be wise to invest in a business insurance policy that could provide protection from the financial fallout of these intrusions.
According to Physorg.com, social networking sites are the target of these types of attacks because it is easy to disguise these harmful links as content posted by friends, which makes them more likely to be clicked.
