Dow AgroSciences has recently been accused of patent infringement by Bayer CropScience, and the case is before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
Bayer alleges DAS practiced unauthorized use of four Bayer patents that are related to glufosinate-tolerance technology. In the recently filed lawsuit, Bayer requested permanent injunctions against DAS' use of the implicated technology patents.
"Bayer CropScience invests heavily to provide growers with innovative technology solutions and remains resolute in our determination to enforce our intellectual property rights," said Margaret Keating, associate general counsel for Bayer CropScience.
This dispute is one of many recent patent cases demonstrating the necessity of a professional liability insurance policy, which can protect tech companies in the event of intellectual property claims.
DAS was also recently in the news when the company announced it has joined in a partnership with Fraunhofer Institute for Molecular Ecology on a multi-year research agreement aimed at improving biotechnology.
The partnership between the two companies will seek to innovate ways to enhance crops before they are ready for harvesting.
