CoolSculpting technology patents were violated by Clinipro

Published:

With health technology products growing in popularity, tech companies are bound to violate the patents of other technology innovations, which is exactly what happened and caused ZELTIQ Aesthetics to file a patent infringement lawsuit against Clinipro.

ZELTIQ's CoolSculpting technology was developed to selectively reduce fat through selective cooling, which is protected by several patents. ZELTIQ has found Clinipro has violated those patents with its LipoCryo device, and is seeking monetary damages.

"Unfortunately, companies are entering the market with devices that we believe infringe this protected technology," said Gordie Nye, president and CEO of ZELTIQ. "As a result we intend to vigorously enforce our intellectual property rights throughout the world, starting with the lawsuit against Clinipro and the LipoCryo device."

Patent infringement lawsuit costs can be covered by professional liability insurance policies, as well as many other types of lawsuits that tech companies can face.

New health technology will continue to pop up, and developers can learn what has already been created at the iHT2 Health IT Summit that will be held at the Brown Palace Hotel in Denver, Colorado.
